MISSION STATEMENT

Westwood exists to develop growing disciples of Jesus Christ.

This statement serves as a foundation for our mission and ministry down the street and around the world.  Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He gave His disciples (followers) this mandate:  "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.  Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations , baptizing them in the name of the father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age," Matthew 28:18-20.  Most Christians refer to these marching orders as The Great Commission.  As the followers of Christ grow in their relationship with Him, God's purpose for the Church is accomplished.

CORE VALUES AND ENVIRONMENTS

We execute our MISSION through the establishment of CORE VALUES and our ENVIRONMENTS.  At Westwood, we have identified eight core values that make us who we are.  In addition, we have developed a process through four environments to help people their relationship with Christ develops and grows.  The major WIN in a person's life is LIFE CHANGE.  The following is a list of the environments and the corresponding core values.


CONNECT with God

Biblical Authority    The Bible is God's inspired word without flaw or error and is our authority for faith and life.

Prayer as a Priority    God wants His house to be a house of prayer.

Salvation by Grace    Salvation is found in a relationship with Jesus Christ exclusively.

Corporate Worship    Corporate worship is a combination of celebration and reverence as the Body of Christ gathers to give honor and praise to the One who's worthy to receive it.


GROW with Believers

Authentic Community    Accountability, care and spiritual growth occur best within the context of relationally-connected believers in small groups.  Disciples help one another grow by investing time and experiences with each other.

Christ-like Character    Believers seek to live transformed lives, not conformed to their culture.


SERVE in the Church

People Matter    All people matter to us because people matter to God.

Every Christian a Minister    Every Christian has a ministry in the church.


LIVE on Mission

Every Christian is a Missionary    Christians have the responsibility to share their faith with others.  Every Christian is a missionary and has a mission in the world.

LIFE CHANGE

Success in accomplishing our Mission can be measured by the following questions:

• Are lives changing?
• Are people growing to be more like Jesus?

Jesus Christ is the One that changes lives, but we are His instruments.  Think about Westwood's Mission.  Are you growing as a disciple of Jesus Christ?  Are you helping others in their journey to do the same?
